Description

Add a special touch to your home with this lovely straw basket. Use it for storage to keep the clutter out of your way or slide a water tight planter inside for an extra nice touch.

Straw weaving is a lesser known art form practiced by the Wayúu people, particularly in the northern part of the Guajira Peninsula in Colombia. Artisans collect a local palm called Mawisa. They trek for three hours to the area where the palm is found, and later spend four days preparing and weaving the palm. Each basket is thus unique, the result of a desire to preserve and perpetuate a millenary and beautiful tradition.
