This fantastic pectoral is called Búatúnukā, which translates to The River Flow, a representation of the sky and rivers. It symbolizes movement, fluidity, vitality, just like a river that never stops flowing. Búatúnukā pays tribute to water, the vital element for all life. The Emberā-Chamí are a very spiritual people, they believe that everything and everyone has a soul, as a result their pieces are highly symbolical.

The patterns always carry a specific meaning, they are an open window into the Emberā-Chamí, history, culture and traditions. The top line represents Nepono, sacred plants and flowers used by the Shaman, Jaibanā, during spiritual ceremonies. The triangles represent the Andes, the tribe’s ancestral territory.

Colors have specific meanings in Emberā-Chamí culture. Blue, pācuārā, represents the sky and water and space.

This fantastic piece is finished with natural turquoise stones.
