This fantastic fringe necklace is called Mista Drūu, which translates to “The Parrot’s Tail”, a tribute to the diverse fauna found in the areaThe Emberā-Chamí are a very spiritual people, they believe that everything and everyone has a soul, as a result their pieces are highly symbolical.

The patterns always carry a specific meaning, they are an open window into the Emberā-Chamí, history, culture and traditions. The top row represents the Andes, the tribe’s ancestral territory. The diamonds represent Torduā, the leaf of life and the fringes represent Kué, the rain.

Colors have specific meanings in Emberā-Chamí culture. Black, chipār, represents feminine wisdom and spiritual protection. Gold, chikuārā, represents light, happiness and abundance.
