Description

This delightful hat is entirely handmade in straw and adorned with a 100% hand spun, dyed and woven, raw silk ribbon. It is an elegant addition to any summer or garden party that will also shield you from the sun. Tilt it to the side for a more dramatic look.

Straw weaving is a lesser known art form practiced by the Wayúu people, particularly in the northern part of the Guajira Peninsula in Colombia. Artisans collect a native palm found nearby the Macuira natural national park. They trek for three hours to the area where the palm is found, and later spend four days preparing and weaving the palm. Each hat is thus unique, the result of a desire to preserve and perpetuate a millenary and beautiful tradition.
